Example Student Learning Objective Template   This page will give you ideas for writing your SLO.   Also use the SLO Scoring Rubric.  The numbers/targets given here are merely fabricated, your own numbers will reflect your school and district.   Please do not save your work here.  Use the Downloadable word doc  .

Student Learning Objective

The SLO should follow the format of  "when..., who..., will do what..., by how much..?"  Ex: By May, all students who scored below 60% in the 8th grade information literacy pre-test will raise their scores to a minimum of 85%.

Criteria follow the SMART Goals format: Specific, Measureable, Attainable, Results-based, Time-bound.

Baseline Data and Rationale  (Why did you choose this objective?)

You should work with your colleagues to select data and rationale. Use multiple sources, including principal's school goal and classroom teacher's goals.  Align to standards, and ensure rigor.  Ex: XXX is most important for students to know and be able to do, and our data shows that 21 8th graders do not have those skills.   Ex: The Wisconsin ITLS standards call for student to be able to XXX by the end of 8th grade, and 30% of our 8th graders cannot do that.  Ex:  CCSS ELA for writing calls for students to do shared writing, and 30% of our 8th graders are not proficient at that.

Learning Content  (What content will the SLO address?)

Use content or a standard that you are already addressing and that is also a district priority. Ex: The content the students will learn includes the skills needed to find, retrieve, analyze and use information (AASL Standards 1, 2).  Ex: Students will conduct research and use information to think critically, solve problems, and make decisions by using technology effectively and productively (NETS 3, 4, 6) .

Student Population  (Who will you include in this objective?)

Who are the students you will target and work with on this data and content?  Ex: The population will include the 8th grade students who scored below 60% on the Information Literacy pretest given to all 8th graders in the fall.  This currently includes 21 out of 85 students.

Interval (How long will you focus on this objective?)

Ex: This SLO will span the 2013-14 school year through June 8, 2014.

Assessment/Evidence  (How will you measure the outcome of your objective?)

Ex: All 8th grade students take a pre-and post- test on Information Literacy.  We expect them to receive a score of 85% or better.  Those who fall between 60 and 85% on the pre-test will most likely achieve 85% by the end of the year without being targeted..  Those under 60% will receive the targeted support defined in this SLO.

Targeted Growth (What is your goal for student growth?

Ex: The 21 students who scored below 60% in the Information Literacy pre-test will show improvement on the end of year Information Literacy test with a score of 85% or better.

Strategies and Support (What methods or interventions will you use to support  this objective? What is necessary to accomplish the objective?)

Ex: Collaborate with middle school classroom teachers to plan lessons/units that integrate technology into daily use; align digital lessons and resources to CCSS ELA and Math, and NGSS; hold "Technology Tuesdays" after school for training/coaching teachers in digital learning strategies; provide a variety of digital learning experiences to 8th grade students, including virtual collaboration and communication, online/blended learning, and mobile digital learning.  I will need support from IT and Administration for developing/revising our AUPs and improving our technology access and equity.  I will use CESA 7 resources for training and updates on digital media use.
